WELCOME TO COMPEDUCATION.ORG
Personal computers were first made popular in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s by the Apple II, and the world was changed forever. Before the computer, calculators were called abacuses, phones were attached to the wall, Google was just a silly sounding word, and you would be reading this in the form of a book written on a typewriter. Amazingly, many children do not remember or even do not know a world without computers. I once had an elementary school student ask me what my favorite video game was when I was his age. I told him it was Tag.
Not everything about the computer is fantastic. The internet has made identity theft a major problem. Pornography is easily accessible to children who have even a basic understanding of the internet, and as a result of our much coveted freedom of speech, the internet is also full of inaccurate information, as well as instructions for such things as making bombs. A few days ago, I had to teach a child to play solitaire because he “didn’t know you could actually play with a deck of cards.”
However, for every downside to computers there are for more positive aspects. Computers have completely revolutionized the world down to nearly every aspect of daily life. Multinational corporations can hold meetings that are attended by individuals all around the world via satellite. Army commanders can lead troops on the other side of the globe by watching real time videos and satellite imaging. Aspects of daily life as mundane as shopping for new socks have been reinvented as well. One can now simply log onto their favorite online store) and order any number of things, only to have them arrive on their doorstep a few days later.
The computer has undergone many major changes as well. What was once a cutting edge home computer can now be found in the average wristwatch, and even two years after being released the top of the line computer is outdated. The rapidly changing technology can be incredibly difficult to keep up with, especially for those of us who weren’t raised with it. Luckily, there are many ways to learn everything you need to know about computers, whether you want to be successful in the work place or simply would like to learn how to use your new digital camera and software.
It is to aid in this quest of learning that I have created this website. As an instructor of computer technology, I possess a great deal of knowledge about computers as well as the best ways to learn how to use them. From community college courses to Video Professor lessons, there is a plethora of options and I hope to help you choose the one that is best for your individual needs.
